About Us

Who We Are

Formed in July 2013, the Monroe Community Coalition is a grassroots partnership between neighbors and professionals who feel a responsibility for helping youth to grow up healthy and strong.

We want to prevent youth from experiencing the negative impacts of alcohol and other drug use because they adversely impact school performance, job prospects, and physical and mental health.

Our membership is composed of parents, youth, schools, police, non-profit organizations, media, healthcare, chemical dependency and mental health treatment agencies, advocacy agencies and more!

We are guided by a Leadership Team that sets the tone for collaboration and keeps our scope of work focused on our strategic plan.

The Coalition serves the community located within the Monroe School District’s boundary lines, which is spread over 82 square miles in southeast Snohomish County, Washington.

Our Mission

We are a Coalition of concerned parents, neighbors and professionals working together to implement drug prevention and mental health promotion with a community-based approach.

Coalition members promote inclusivity, civically responsible behavior and professionally respectful interactions.

We embrace research-based prevention principles and practices – particularly where we are called to act on behalf of the youth of our community.

Member of the Community Prevention & Wellness Initiative

Our Coalition is a member of the Washington State Health Care Authority’s Community Prevention & Wellness Initiative (CPWI), a partnership of state agencies, counties, school districts and local coalitions supporting communities in preventing alcohol and other drug abuse and its negative consequences.

CPWI priorities include reducing underage drinking, marijuana use, and opioid misuse/abuse among middle and high school aged youth.

We use Healthy Youth Survey and other data to identify our community’s true vulnerabilities to match them with evidence-based programs, practices and strategies that turn down the heat on youth substance use.

Together, members have changed the health and wellness of Monroe as we build a healthier tomorrow.
